One of our key competencies lies
in the area of Virtualisation.
Virtualisation not only in clusters
and domains, but also in the form
of virtual machines utilizing latest
technologies. Virtualisation allows multiple virtual systems
to run on the same physical infrastructure;
otherwise known as "data centre in
a box".
This architecture enables businesses
to lower their IT costs through increased
utilisation, consistency and responsiveness.
Virtualisation platforms that TAS consults in include Sun Containers, Microsoft Virtual Server, VMware and PlateSpin, a virtualization enabler tool set.

test environments
- Improve the effectiveness of
your production and DR environments
- Ensure maximum performance and
availability of your consolidated
environments
Introducing
PlateSpin
PlateSpin is a leading supplier of technology and solutions that help companies measure,
consolidate and optimize the server resources in the data centre. PlateSpin's unique
workload portability platform is ideal for enterprises looking to balance and optimize
the use of both physical and virtual infrastructure server environments to improve service
levels and lower operational costs. PlateSpin was recently named one of the top 25 up-and-coming
technology companies by The Branham Group.

Introducing Sun Containers
Sun Microsystems have incorporated into their latest operating system release (Solaris 10) "Solaris Containers" or formally known as "N1 Grid Containers". Containers allow administrators to create isolated "containers" of the underlying operating system. Each container has its own identity and behaves as if it is running on its own system. Resources can be allocated to individual containers to help maintain services levels and protect applications from each other. Solaris Containers are used when consolidating as well as for creating test and development environments. A notable difference between this and other virtualization technologies is that the same version of the underlying operating system (in this case Solaris 10) must be presented within each container.

Introducing MS Virtual Server
MSVS is a server virtualisation tool that runs on top of a Windows OS and allows the running of multiple virtual server instances on a single piece of hardware. MSVS affords the developer with a flexible platform for the design of application environments and can also be used for small server consolidation projects. As MSVS runs on top of Windows 2003 (or XP) it can run VMs on a wide variety of legacy hardware thereby leveraging resource on systems that have already been purchased. The product is available as a Standard version that can be installed on a system containing up to 4 CPUs or as an Enterprise version that scales to 32 CPUs and represents a cost effective way to implement virtualisation technology in non production environments.

Introducing Akimbi
Akimbi (www.akimbi.com) leverages virtualization to automate QA / Test labs. To summarize, Slingshot:
- Automates the set-up and tear down of dev and test environments.
- Provides users complete control of system configurations, including deploy, snapshot, copy, save and restore.
- Ensures clean and accurate system configurations are always available.
- Enables both local and remote teams (i.e. India/US) to pool and share resources.
- Integrates with leading test tools for true "lights out" testing.
- Instantly reproduces bugs occurring in simple or complex, multi-machine environments.
The result is faster, more efficient development and test cycles, improvements in shipped product quality and a dramatic savings in customer support and operational expenses.
Some of the press that Akimbi has recently had includes:
